I discovered the power of PR when I owned my own travel and hospitality business. Naturally, as a start-up business I had a limited advertising budget but I had an MA in Publication Design, a BFA in Graphic Design and an AA in Visual Communication plus a great passion for writing and photography. I began to submit stories and photographs to local media outlets of our adventure products and of our guests having awesome experiences on our tours. Soon thereafter, our brand stories appeared throughout national and international newspapers, magazines, television segments and radio. During the 12 years of our adventure business I paid for one ad worth $300 as a favor to a colleague. The rest of our appearances were a direct result of effective brand communication strategies and successful media relations.
Today, I use the same principles to harness the power of persuasion through storytelling to successfully secure earned media coverage for clients and organizations.
